Interested in Volunteering at The Centre?
We are looking for new volunteers and collective members! We are interested in students and community members who have between 2-4 hours a week to share with The Centre. Volunteers and collective members are required to attend an ‘anti-oppression’ and ‘Trans 101’ training session before getting involved with The Centre. Our scheduled training for the fall term is on Friday, October 11 from 11am to 6pm. Please RSVP to reserve a spot!
Volunteering at the CWTP is a great way to meet people; share and acquire new skills; challenge and empower ourselves; find and build personal support systems; and organize to resist the systems of domination in our lives. It is a great way to make an impact at York and shape the work of an important campus organization.
What does volunteering look like?
Volunteers can get involved with The Centre in various capacities. One way of getting involved is through our working groups. Our working groups meet regularly and may plan an event for everyone to enjoy! What we have done in the past include:
-Trans* Gender Non-Conforming Action and Support Group – Clothing Swap for trans, questioning and allies
-Feminists of Colour Organize (foco) – Remembering Otherwise: Centering Race in Gender Advocacy
-Nail Salon – facilitating discussions on topics such as radical gender expressions, cis-privilege, self-care, or “reverse racism”
Volunteers help staff the space when collective or staff members are unavailable due to meetings. The Centre is greatly appreciative when a volunteer can help keep the space open to keep our resources accessible at all times!
Volunteers can assist collective members maintain their portfolio. Portfolios are different tasks taken on by the collective to ensure The Centre runs smoothly. Some portfolios include:
-Space Maintenance (keeping the space clean, keeping the plants green)
-Outreach and Promotions (tabling)
Volunteers can also help out with the Centre’s upcoming Referendum Campaign to increase our funding! This will involve outreach, tabling, doing class talks, and spreading the word about CWTP. This campaign provides great opportunities for improving your public speaking skills.
If interested in volunteering, email our staff at email@example.com or drop by the Centre. Printed forms are available at the Centre. All information provided on the form will be accessible only to designated staff and volunteers for the purpose of the Program. Submitting an application does not guarantee your acceptance as a Collective Member. Thanks for your interest!
